Hey everyone! In this quick tip, we are going to look at how to draw and create the toolpaths for this simple
flower shape and you may be surprised just how easy it is to create this shape.
To create the simple flower shape, we are going to start off with our Draw Polygon tool. So we are going to open that up. And in here you can see you can specify the
number of sides. So the number of sides is going to be how many petals your flower has.
So let's say we wanted 6. We can enter 6 in this box and then you can either specify a size or you can go right into your job
and if your geometry and smart snapping is on, you can snap right to the center point,
click and drag outwards until you get to a size that you like. Let's say right about there.
Then we can release our mouse. We can close down our Draw Polygon tool.
And now you see we have this polygon here and now than convert this into a flower looking shape. So to do that, with the shape still selected,
we're gonna go to our node editing mode by typing the letter N on our keyboard.
Now we can edit the nodes and you can see if you right click on one of these line spans,
you can change this from this line that it is right now - we can change it into an arc. And you
can also see the shortcut on the right here is the letter A. So let's click "to Arc."
And now you can see it now looks like a flower petal.
So now we just have to do that for all the sides. So we can either right click on each one of these and convert them to an arc or like we just
learned the shortcut, if we hover over top of this line and type the letter A, that'll change it into an arc.
So we just hover over each line and type the letter A, going all the way around, and you can see that is very simple.
And now it looks like a flower shape.
So now we are done in our node editing mode, so we can escape that by clicking the Esc key on our keyboard.
And now if you wanted to put a circle in the center, you can go to your Draw Circle tool,
making sure your snap settings are on, we can snap it to the center point click and drag out
until you get to a size that you like, then release. And then we can close down our Draw Circle form.
And there we go, now we have a simple flower shape that we just drew.
And if you wanted to make some quick toolpaths for this, we can switch over to our toolpath commands.
For the center circle, we can select that. We can cut that with a pocket, so we use our pocket toolpath.
And let's say we go 0.125" deep with a 1/4" endmill
and let's calculate that.
And we can preview.
And now if we go back to our 2D view, select the outer shape.
Close down our preview.
Let's go to the profile toolpath.
We'll cut all the way through our material with 1/4 inch endmill on the outside of the line. Let's calculate that.
And we will click preview.
And there we go. You can double click on the waste to remove it.
And we can even change the color of this, if you like. Let's say we change the color of the
material to a solid color. We'll go to the top: "Use Solid Color."
Let's say we went to this purple.
And then the machine area color, we can change to a global fill of let's say this yellow color.
And there we go, now we have a simple flower that we just designed and cut out with only a few simple steps.
